Backache or pain is a very common problem, affecting 8 out of 10 people at some point during their lives
and 5 out of 10 working adults have back pain every year. Back pain can range from a dull, constant ache to
a sudden, sharp pain and may radiate pain into the arms or legs and cause numbness or tingling.

Back pain can be accumulative or caused by a specific problem such as muscular tension or spasms, disc
problems, arthritis, injury, etc. Many people find relief from symptoms of back pain with pain medication,
but often the problem may not resolve properly or take too long to heal.
Osteopathy is very effective in treating backache and back problems and is recommended by the National
Institute of Clinical Excellence (NICE). An osteopath can diagnosis the cause of the back problem and treat
it appropriately. A combination of massage, mobilisation, manipulation and exercise advice can cause the
problem to resolve quickly and effectively.
Long standing back problems also respond well to osteopathy and with advice, exercises and occasional
preventative treatments can help to improve spinal healthy.
