Trapped, compressed or inflamed nerves can cause severe pain and symptoms such as pins and needles, numbness,
weakness, burning, and altered sensations. A nerve can be entrapped anywhere in the body and often pain
is felt in the spine and may be accompanied by referred pain into for example the legs or arms. There may
also be associated pins and needles, numbness and other nerve symptoms.
An Osteopath can use specific testing to diagnose
which nerve is affected and at what level. Osteopathy can
treat nerve pain by releasing pressure on the nerve - by aligning the spine, mobilizing the joints to reduce
pressure on the nerve and reduce muscle spasm, which can inflame or compress the nerve. Therefore restoring
the balance to the spine and muscles, allowing the nerve to heal and the pain to resolve.
