Whiplash is a term used to describe neck pain following a direct injury to the neck, although other
areas of the body may also be affected. It is caused by an abnormal motion or force applied to your
neck that causes movement beyond a normal range. Whiplash most frequent occurs from car accidents,
however whiplash injuries can be sustained in many other ways too, including falls, cycling injuries or
horse riding accidents.
Whiplash signs and symptoms may occur immediately or minutes to hours after the initial injury.
Neck pain, neck swelling, muscle spasms, difficulty moving your head or neck, headaches, shooting pains
into the shoulder or arm are possible symptoms that may occur.

Research on whiplash recovery, has shown a true significance in having treatment as soon as possible
after injury, specifically within the first three months.
Osteopathy can be very effective in treating whiplash injuries. Massage can help to release any
associated muscle spasm or tension, mobilization and manipulation can help release the neck and restore
alignment and specific exercises & advice can be given to restore function and alleviate symptoms.
